Laurie McCarthy Schutt

Laurie McCarthy Schutt, a media and public relations specialist, and Jennifer Safford Murphy, Esq., who has expertise in finance, development, tax and estate planning, recently were elected to the Bucks County Women's Fund (BCWF) Board of Directors.

Both women bring considerable skills to this public foundation dedicated to raising money to fund and support programs and policies that impact, empower and improve the lives of Bucks women and girls.
A seasoned professional with expertise in strategic communications and marketing, Laurie Schutt of Doylestown is dedicated to helping women and girls and is enthusiastic about becoming involved with BCWF. "The Bucks County Women's Fund has tremendous potential as a vehicle for improving the lives of females in our county. I see potential not only as a source of funding for other organizations but also as a bridge-builder and catalyst for change,” she said.

Kathleen Welsh Beveridge, BCWF executive director, says Laurie's expertise and energy will help strengthen the organization. "At the core of successful fundraising and development is the ability to communicate a vision and emotionally and intellectually connect with potential donors. These are the types of skills Laurie McCarthy Schutt has honed over her years in sales, marketing and business development, and we are thrilled to have her on our board,” Beveridge said.

Jenni Murphy says she is excited to be part of such a positive organization. "Working with the women's fund is a natural fit for me. As I balance the challenges of being a new mom—and a working mom—I want to build a better future for my little girl and for all the women and girls in Bucks County,” she said. "It's important for women and girls to have resources and know what's available, and my goals are to increase recognition of the fund and mobilize participation in the organization.” Jenni lives in Bristol Township with her husband, Congressman Patrick J. Murphy, and their young daughter, Maggie.

Murphy's accomplishments have led nicely into her position with BCWF. At Fox Rothschild, LLP, she serves as an Associate in the Tax and Estates Department in the Philadelphia office. Jenni previously worked for Cozen O'Connor as an Associate in the Trusts & Estates Practices Group where she concentrated her legal practice in tax and estate planning for individuals and charitable organizations. Prior to that, she worked at Deloitte & Touche, LLP as senior tax consultant.

A 1993 graduate of Pennsbury High School, Jenni grew up in Lower Makefield Township. After completing undergraduate work at University of Delaware, she went on to earn her law and MBA degrees from Temple University Beasley School of Law and the Fox School of Business Management.

Now, Murphy brings her expertise to the BCWF, and Board President Gayle Goodman has high praises for her: "Jenni already has put her considerable talents to work for us. With expertise in finance, development, tax and estate planning, she is a tremendous asset to the women's fund.”

Laurie is consultant to Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network, where she has earned recognition for her work to increase the visibility and credibility of this 900-bed hospital system. She also is involved in the start up of the Catherine Boulay Foundation, a nonprofit created to support patients and families in their journey through cancer, and has worked with a broad range of industries and organizations over the years.

Laurie attended Hunter College and is a CUNY-BA program graduate of the City University of New York. Over her career she has won numerous awards for technical journalism and leadership in sales and marketing.

At the June meeting of the BCWF Board of Directors, JoAnn Perotti was elected to the newly created position of President-Elect; Gayle Goodman of New Hope was re-elected president and Nancy Morrill of Newtown was re-elected vice president. Also renewed for two years were the board terms of Gayle Goodman, Angela Jacobsen of Warrington, Janet Mintzer of Doylestown, Marijo Murphy of Warminster, Nancy Morrill, JoAnn Perotti, Yvette Taylor-Hachoose of Washington Crossing, and Judy Zipkin-Grasso of Lumberville.

Managed by women and incorporated in 1990, the Bucks County Women's Fund has awarded grants totaling more than $212,000 to 36 area organizations serving women and girls.
